Depression during pregnancy needs too much care. Although the pregnancy is supposed to be one of the happiest time of a woman’s life, but it is also true that for many women that is a time of anxiety, fear, and even depression also. According to a survey   between 14 to 23 percent of women struggle with some symptoms of depression in pregnancy. In most of the cases depression is not diagnosed properly during the period of pregnancy because many people think that it is just another type of hormonal imbalance. Remember, this type of assumption can be dangerous for the mother and the unborn baby. So if the pregnant woman is feeling something like depression, don’t ignore it and contact to the doctor instantly.

And for example, if your spouse is currently facing depression during her pregnancy period you must know how to over come depression. Because taking care during pregnancy is very important.  After marriage every man and woman must know what the ‘pregnancy tips’ are. It is very necessary to know that during pregnancy, hormone changes take place. These changes can be the cause of depression and anxiety. And it has been seen that due to hormonal changes females normally feel anxious. But in fact there is nothing to worry about these things and women should not be depressed due to that. And it is also very important for pregnant women not to shy about letting the doctor or midwife know if she is feeling low. Disclose all the things to the doctor so that he or she may understand clearly what is actually happening. Some times the pregnant women dismiss their feelings, at that time it may be difficult for the doctor to diagnose the case whether the patent is feeling depression or anxiety. It should be noted down that the emotional health of pregnant women is every bit as important as her physical health. So taking care during pregnancy is very important. The fact is that it can affect not only the physical and mental health of mother but due to that the physical and mental health of the developing baby can also be affected as well. As child care and the health of mother go together so for caring baby’s health it is also essential to take care her mother as well.

Depression during pregnancy may be harmful for developing baby:

Depression during pregnancy may be very harmful for developing baby.  Keep in mind that if depression is not treated it may prove dangerous for not only the mother but for baby as well. Due to untreated depression finally the result may be very unfavorable. For example it may lead to poor nutrition, smoking or even suicidal behavior. Afterwards it may also be caused early birth, low birth weight or any developmental problems. Another important thing is that depressed women do not have the strength to take care appropriately for herself or her developing baby and it is obviously a great loss. It has been noticed that babies born to depressed mothers seem less active and are more irritable, touchy and nervous than babies born to moms who are not depressed. So it is very important to take care   for both mom and baby as well.

Depression during pregnancy has specific signs and symptoms:

Depression during pregnancy has specific signs and symptoms. You must know what are the signs and symptoms of depression. It has been noticed that women with depression usually experience some of the following symptoms for 2 weeks or more:

  • Constant sadness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Sleeping too little or too much
  • Anxiety
  • Immense hopelessness
  • Loss of interest
  • Change in eating habits
  • Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
  • Thoughts of death or suicide

Depression during pregnancy may over come:

Depression during pregnancy may over come. It is not too much hard task and it is the responsibility of a good husband to do his best for his wife and children. So you must make all kind of arrangements that your wife must not stress or depress during pregnancy period and always keep in mind that exercise, meditation, comfortable rest and warm bath all these things may be beneficial for the mind and body of pregnant women. It is also better to include other family members and friends in your wife’s pregnancy, because it helps them understand what she is going through so they can be more understanding and supportive.
